THE OCEANS

8 MILLION TONNES

of waste end up in the oceans every year.

Why Plastic Bottles?

Plastics play an important role in almost every aspect of our lives: we now use around 20 times more plastic than we did 50 years ago. It is one of the most durable and versatile materials out there, yet it is being made into single-use products that get used once and thrown away to pollute our oceans for centuries to come.

This is becoming a tremendous problem for the environment and is creating a massive strain on marine ecosystems - to the point that it is estimated that by 2050 there will be more microplastics in the ocean than fish.

One of Naeco’s goals is to lengthen the lifespan of these plastics by reusing and recycling them as many times as possible, in order to prevent them from entering landfills or our oceans.

The desire to fight plastic pollution that plagues our oceans is at the core of everything we do here at Naeco - and we’ll do whatever we can to make this happen.

Plastic Bottles

Whether we’re designing and making ethical clothing from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic fabric as well as other sustainable materials, arranging beach cleanup operations, or using our voice to encourage others to consider how they can reduce their reliance upon single-use plastics, we will never stop protecting our oceans.

Our Process

Plastic bottles, straws and other plastic waste are collected and passed through a series of steps of cleaning and crushing to obtain plastic flakes, which through a mechanical process are converted into rough polyester spun fibre. This fibre is then manipulated to obtain the finest quality of yarn, which we use to develop our fabrics.

Naeco

“Naeco was born out of a need to rid the ocean of the terrible plastic contamination that mankind is pouring into it daily. As an avid kite surfer and scuba diver, I have spent a massive amount of my time in the ocean. Over the years I saw more and more plastic floating on the surface and the enormous impact that it has on wildlife and the environment. I knew I had to do something to fix this.

Naeco symbolises what I believe the fabrics of the future should be, and we are leading the way for fashion brands, specifically luxury fashion brands, to become more sustainable.
We are now able to make incredibly soft fabrics out of re-born and repurposed materials - using state of the art recycling methods, textile research and technology - and we are helping to save the oceans in the process.

Our aim is simple; to create a luxury brand that shows the world that there is no need to carelessly use our world’s natural resources. We can make clothing from sustainable materials that have a positive impact on our planet.”
